3 levels of Paddington, Sydney terrace house redesigned as a luxurious inner city pad. Rough brick walls sit alongside velvet, leather, silk and crystal while in the kitchen Calcutta marble meets polished concrete. Rising through it all the star of the show is the glass and steel staircase. A house that needs more sympathetic photography to really convince me but oh my the staircase against that wall …. brilliant.

open layout living and dining area. low couch makes the ceilings appear even taller. i LOVE the offset hanging of art. and the crystal chandelier is a great clash against the industrial feel of this place.

This live work loft is one of many projects by Macro Sea, a real estate development firm located in New York City. In addition to residential designs, their portfolio contains some very interesting public projects, including dumpster and mobile pools for beating the heat in urban areas, a vacant lot turned archery range, and a found object skate park. I couldn’t tear myself away from this beautiful live work loft however. I love the large two-level wood island anchoring the kitchen, and the grouping of mismatched stools is an example of industrial charm at its best. As interior daydreaming material goes, this will do quite nicely.

Open to the breeze or buttoned up to weather the storm, Casa de Lavra designed by Nuno Merino Rochais a perfectly poised at the crossroads of minimalist and rustic. No more than exactly what is required. A big open living space with a wood burning stove, a cozy kitchen tucked under a large open sleeping loft, and a variety of windows and doors which open to connect the inside with it’s natural surroundings.
