When the railway network was modernized and moved first to diesel, and then to electric traction, all these structures lost their practical importance. Many of them were destroyed or were in a state of ruins.

This water tower – located next to the old Imperial station in Potsdam, Germany – was built around 1910.

The purpose of the restoration work was to turn the tower into a dwelling, as well as a small neighboring house.''
